CLEVELAND, OH: The Cleveland Shoulder Institute’s Dr. Reuben Gobezie, M.D., performed more than 500 total replacement surgeries in the past year, positioning him as one of the world’s highest-volume shoulder replacement specialists. Peer-reviewed clinical research published in leading orthopedic journals consistently demonstrates that patients undergoing total shoulder arthroplasty experience significantly lower complication rates and fewer reoperations when procedures are performed by high-volume specialists.

The Founding Director and Chief of Surgery at the Cleveland Shoulder Institute, Dr. Gobezie, is an award-winning orthopedic surgeon whose numerous research publications and honors underscore his expertise and leadership in the field of advanced shoulder care.  Fellowship trained at Harvard Medical School, he is a member of the invitation-only American Shoulder & Elbow Specialists, a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, and a recipient of the prestigious Charles S. Neer Award for excellence in shoulder research.

Peer-reviewed clinical research in leading orthopedic journals has shown that patients undergoing total shoulder arthroplasty with high-volume surgeons experience significantly lower complication rates and reoperations compared with those who undergo the same types of procedures with lower-volume surgeons.  A 2025 nationwide assessment that analyzed data from more than 155,000 shoulder replacement patients between 2010 and 2022 found that high-volume surgeons had a significantly lower complication rate overall, even after adjusting for patient risk factors.

Dr. Gobezie specializes in advanced, minimally invasive shoulder reconstruction techniques and has performed more than 500 total shoulder arthroplasties within the past year alone.  “As a high-volume shoulder surgeon, I’m dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for every patient I work with,” said Dr. Gobezie.  “At the Cleveland Shoulder Institute, our work is consistently patient-centered and grounded in ethics, accountability, and measurable results.”
